Last weekend the Israel Orienteering Society held their Negev regional
championships over two days. The first day was at Sde Boker, the next
day at Nitzana on the Egyption Border.
I competed on Friday on
foot and on my bike Saturday. Performance was less than I’d hoped. In a
rather amusing irony for those who know me from AR races in Canada,
about halfway through the run on Friday I felt enough friction occuring
on the arch of my left foot that I knew if I didn’t stop a blister
would form. It was my own fault…I knew my feet were dry, and I
conciously decided not to put Bodyglide on my feet that morning. Sand
got into my shoes, and the rest is easy. I didn’t want to throw out the
effort so I pushed on. The result was a rather large open blister on
the arch of my foot, making it QUITE difficult to even walk the next
day (which is why I rode). Downhills were a bit rough with the jarring,
so I wound up doing a lot of riding with only my right leg clipped in
and my left hanging off to the side. It was a blast.
