Rappelling Instructor Course?

I received an email from one of the people who was with me on the high angle rescue course. Some people are considering getting a rappelling instructor certification from Wingate. Since we’re rescue certified, we in theory have to just get “topped up” on topics relating to dealing with large numbers of people before going for the final test. Of course, nothing comes cheap, and rumor has it that the additional training costs close to 2000 shekel.

I can think of a lot of gear that I could buy with that money, so I’m not sure if this is worthwhile. With the costs of insurance, is this something even useable?

I like the idea that it may open the door for some moonlighting outside of the office and to give me yet something else to do on the weekends. Since they want to move quickly, I don’t have that much time to decide. I think that a friend of mine got certified while she was in university, so I’ll start there.

In the end, it’s just another certification to add on to the pile that may be useful down the road.

  1. It doesn’t hurt on my opinion if someone will take a “dive” into this Rappelling course. Since if one is hellbent on safety! But if the training cost is enough to give you a heart attack than skip it! Certification does gives an edge or more credibility but shouldn’t rob you of money just to supplement your ability to rescue. I say you have a compelling blog!
