Slight Improvement - Maps Arrived

It appears that a few calls that I made raised a bit of noise.

The commander of the station was reminded that they had put out a pleading call to have someone from a rescue team staff the outpost. The station commander promised to take care of the flak jacket & helmet. That was about 4 hours ago. Still nothing. Great.

However, one of the senior officers in the northern region responsible for the rescue teams sees things a bit differently, and actually took personal responsability even though it’s not technically his problem. He gave me his flak jacket and helmet. He also went off to get maps. He came back about an hour later with the best maps I’ve ever seen of Israel! Not only that, but they are freshly printed and laminated. I think they printed them off on the spot. This is the first time I’ve seen a 1:50 topo map of Israel with declination printed as well as detailed UTM grid information. These are civilian maps, not military. I’m going to have to get the contact details so I can order some for myself.

Anyway, so at least with the maps if a missile actually gets shot here I can do something useful. The chances of that occuring are still….small.

We hear over the police radio every 10-30 minutes about another salvo somewhere else further North. Naharya got a few rounds, as did Kyriat Shmona.

Funny thing just happened. They announced that there were incoming rounds to Mt. Meron just now. I got confused between names, and thought that was close by for just long enough for us to waste time getting up.

This is going to be a rather dull day. I’ll try to find a way to get further up north tomorrow. At least the view from here is stunning.

Update: Funny how things work. The Afula station commander showed up. Within 20 minutes, about a half dozen senior officers from Afula joined her. It got pretty crowded up here, and everyone was anxious to ask what the three of us were missing. Things such as a spare battery for the 2-way radio and flashlight were promised.
